Registered foreign direct investment in Viet Nam totalled US$50.36 billion during January–September 2026, a year-on-year increase of 76.4%, VNA reported. Capital disbursement reached US$21.07 billion after rising 12.1%, marking its highest level in five years.

Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong said the figures reflected investors’ confidence in the country’s business conditions and growth prospects. He also pointed to an improvement in investment quality, citing more large projects involving electronics, semiconductors, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

Foreign-invested companies generated US$350.4 billion in exports, including crude oil, during the nine-month period. That represented 80.7% of Viet Nam’s total export value of US$434.3 billion.

Investment-backed production expansion also supported provincial growth. Ha Tinh’s gross regional domestic product rose 12.36%, while its industrial production index increased 40.2%, the country’s fastest rise. Expanded operations at Formosa Ha Tinh Steel and the Vung Ang II thermal power plant contributed to the industrial increase. Hai Phong recorded GRDP growth of 12.08%, placing it third nationally, with additional manufacturing capacity contributing.

The Foreign Investment Agency, part of the Ministry of Finance, said disbursed FDI could approach US$30 billion in 2026. Former National Statistics Office director Nguyen Bich Lam said assessments of FDI should go beyond registered amounts to consider production capacity, domestic value retained, connections with local firms and technology transfer.
