Sarawak unveils RM14.84 billion budget, projects surplus for 2027
Development expenditure is set at RM10.09 billion, an increase of RM826 million, or nine per cent, from the original 2026 estimate.

Sarawak has announced a 2027 budget worth RM14.84 billion, with revenue forecast to exceed ordinary expenditure by RM246 million. Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg tabled the spending plan on October 12, 2026, before the State Legislative Assembly.
Abang Johari put the revenue forecast at RM15.09 billion, which he said would be the state's highest. That projection is RM2.04 billion, or 16 per cent, above the RM13.04 billion estimated for 2026.
The spending plan assigns RM9.09 billion to the Development Fund Account. The premier said this would strengthen its carried-forward balance to help finance development expenditure budgeted at RM10.09 billion. Another RM300 million is designated for the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund.
Operating expenditure is set at RM5.74 billion. Of that, supplies and services are assigned RM2.02 billion, representing 35 per cent, while personnel emoluments receive RM1.42 billion, equivalent to 25 per cent.
Grants and fixed payments have an allocation of RM1.97 billion, accounting for 34 per cent of operating expenditure. This covers operating grants for local authorities and statutory bodies, servicing public debt, pensions and gratuities, scholarships, and welfare and financial assistance. Asset purchases are budgeted at RM134 million, with RM192 million set aside for other operating costs.
