Sarawak is considering cooperation with Russia on launches of rockets and satellites, with the Malaysian state's position close to the Equator cited as an advantage.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Naiyl M. Latypov, Russia's ambassador to Malaysia, brought up the proposal during a courtesy visit. He said Sarawak needed more engineers and was willing to consider cooperation to expand its pool of professionals in the field.
