Mako gas project starts pipe production for domestic supply
The project targets gas output of 111 million standard cubic feet per day, with production facilities planned in Surabaya and Batam.

Production of 80 kilometres of pipeline is under way in Batam for Indonesia’s Mako gas development, whose output is to supply domestic customers rather than Singapore. The field lies in the Duyung working area off Natuna.
The WNEL production-sharing contractor consortium is manufacturing the pipes. Its members are West Natuna Exploration Ltd, which holds 25%, and PT Nation Natuna Barat, with 75%.
SKK Migas head Djoko Siswanto said in a statement dated 1 November 2026 that production facilities would be constructed at PT PAL Indonesia’s Surabaya yard and a facility in Batam. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 2026, with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia expected to officiate.
The development targets completion of offshore drilling, production facilities and the 80 km subsea pipeline within two years. Once finished, Mako is intended to produce 111 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).
Singapore was the original destination because the only available pipeline connected it to Natuna. The supply plan changed after completion of the West Natuna Transmission System (WNTS) pipeline between Pemping Island and Batam. With the energy minister’s approval, all future Mako production will serve domestic demand, particularly electricity generation in Batam and surrounding areas.
