Indonesia’s PT PLN (Persero) began supplying Batam with 15 Mmscfd of natural gas from Natuna on 27 October 2026 through its subsidiary PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI). The company said the deliveries use the WNTS-Pemping pipeline to supply fuel for electricity generation.

The immediate purpose is to meet PLN Batam’s needs while the Jambi Merang facilities undergo scheduled maintenance between 24 October and 3 November 2026. For the longer term, PLN said the pipeline is ready to receive 111 MMSCFD from the Mako field over eight years beginning in 2027.

The pipeline runs for 4.5 kilometres, has a diameter of 16 inches and a design capacity of 300 million cubic feet per day. It links the WNTS network with an onshore receiving facility on Pemping Island in the Riau Islands.

In a written statement dated 30 October 2026, PLN president director Suroso Isnandar said stronger infrastructure and a more diverse supply were important for electricity reliability. PLN EPI acting president director Rakhmad Dewanto said the connection fulfilled an assignment from Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.

PLN said the route holds special rights from BPH Migas valid until 17 October 2046, alongside a temporary gas transportation business permit from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry dated 26 October 2026.
