Malaysia considers participation in Embraer supply chain

Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said potential cooperation aligns with Malaysia’s defence-industry policy aspirations.

Malaysia is examining possible cooperation with Brazil’s Embraer Defense & Security, with a view to participating in its supply chain regionally and globally, according to Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Writing on Facebook, Khaled said the subject came up when he received Frederico Lemos, Embraer’s chief commercial officer, for a courtesy call at Kuala Lumpur’s Wisma Pertahanan. He cited the company’s experience in developing aircraft and integrated defence solutions.

Khaled said the meeting offered scope to examine collaboration on developing Malaysia’s downstream ecosystem. He described the potential cooperation as consistent with the National Defence Industry Policy (DIPN) aspirations to strengthen domestic defence-industry capabilities.
