Agricultural development could enable Indonesia to surpass 8 per cent economic growth and reach more than 10 per cent, National Development Planning Minister and Bappenas head Rachmat Pambudy said. He made the remarks at his office on 19 October 2026.

To illustrate agriculture’s potential, Pambudy pointed to Vietnam, whose economy he said expanded by 9.9 per cent in the third quarter of 2026. He linked that performance to the development of its agricultural sector, from farming through processing to exports.

Pambudy said better use of Indonesia’s agricultural sector could bring a return to the double-digit growth seen in the 1970s and 1980s. During those decades, he said, agriculture expanded rapidly while downstream industries also developed well.

He also identified downstream processing and wider financial inclusion among the population as sources of additional economic value, alongside the development of agriculture.
