Exporters from Indonesia are expected to sign 168 memorandums of understanding valued at US$13.2 billion with prospective buyers representing 22 countries as Trade Expo Indonesia opens on October 14, Trade Minister Budi Santoso said.

The expo runs until October 18 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD in Tangerang, Banten. Santoso said overseas Indonesian Trade Promotion Centers and trade attachés had helped arrange the planned agreements through their engagement with potential buyers.

Organisers expect 1,873 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors, with a transaction target of US$17.5 billion. According to the minister, registrations totalled 16,885 buyers, of whom 8,092 were international buyers representing 134 countries.

Santoso said exhibits cover agricultural commodities, food and beverages, manufactured goods, handicrafts, fashion, furniture and home decor. Industrial products intended to attract investors are also being showcased.

The Trade Ministry will recognise exporters and regional leaders for their contribution to exports with Primaniyarta Awards. Primaduta Awards will recognise international partners, Indonesian diaspora members and heads of Indonesian representative offices for promoting the country's products. Universities recording the highest transaction values at the expo will receive Campuspreneur Awards, Santoso said.

The previous year's expo recorded US$22.83 billion in potential transactions and drew 1,619 exhibitors, 8,045 buyers and 34,550 visitors.
