Indonesia’s government expects to spend about Rp1,300 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2026 despite continuing budget efficiency measures, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said. That compares with Rp1,200 trillion in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

Speaking after a limited meeting at the State Palace on 19 October, Suahasil said efficiency did not mean halting spending. He said the Finance Ministry regularly checked that budgets were being implemented efficiently, and expressed confidence that spending would reach the fourth-quarter target.

Suahasil said the higher expenditure would support economic activity and consumption. Public services, including social protection and food assistance, would continue during the quarter. He also said the government would keep working with BI to maintain financial-sector stability and support OJK’s microprudential supervision.

Budget efficiency involved improving the results of spending, rather than simply reducing allocations, he said. He cited the Free Nutritious Meals programme, known as MBG, saying management changes had made many aspects of its implementation more efficient. The government would continue carrying out the president’s priority activities, he added.
