Indonesia aims to bring Pertalite fuel reserves back to 20 days within one week after stocks fell to between 16 and 18 days, according to Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadai.

The ministry linked the decline to consumers moving from non-subsidised Pertamax to subsidised Pertalite. Bahlil said the price difference had prompted users of RON 92 and RON 95 petrol to choose the cheaper RON 90 grade, increasing demand for it.

In remarks reported on 19 October 2026, Bahlil said RON 90 was the only fuel grade with reserves below 20 days. Diesel and petrol grades RON 92, RON 95 and RON 98 faced no supply issues, he said.

Despite the lower Pertalite stocks, Bahlil said reserves continued to meet national minimum availability standards. He maintained that supplies remained secure at refineries and petrol stations across Indonesia, and that the current reserve level did not mean the country was below its minimum requirement.
