Anwar calls RM510 billion Budget 2027 a pledge to Malaysians
The prime minister said the budget addresses employment, wages and minimum income alongside economic growth, following consultation with various groups.

Malaysia’s RM510 billion Budget 2027 represents a commitment to the public that must be honoured with integrity, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on October 10. Anwar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said its measures were intended to improve living standards across society.
Speaking during a special Budget 2027 interview broadcast by Radio Televisyen Malaysia, he said the Ministry of Finance and other ministries had developed the Fifth Madani Budget with input from various groups. He said hundreds of views, and possibly more, had been considered, covering economic growth, employment, wages and minimum income.
Anwar said economic success could coexist with financial pressures on households, requiring a broader approach to budgeting. He highlighted concerns affecting gig workers, including those in e-hailing and p-hailing, and said the budget also addressed matters such as cat welfare.
The budget, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat, sets out eight pillars covering living standards and Malaysia’s resilience and future. Anwar described its underlying commitment as the “National Covenant”, saying national progress should deliver greater dignity for people and strengthen the country for future generations.
