UOB and AWS explore Singapore cloud environment for ASEAN banking
The proposed hybrid infrastructure would serve UOB’s five ASEAN markets, with AI applications and employee training also under consideration.

UOB has signed a memorandum of understanding with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to investigate creating a dedicated Singapore cloud environment for its regional banking operations. The companies said the proposed collaboration aims to strengthen resilience, address regulatory obligations and improve services for customers in the bank’s five ASEAN markets.
The hybrid model would combine cloud resources with UOB’s on-premises systems and data infrastructure. It would include an isolated cloud extension that could be placed in particular jurisdictions to satisfy local rules. The dedicated Singapore environment would let UOB configure systems and data for each market’s requirements while accessing analytics and AI tools.
Alongside the infrastructure work, the partners will investigate AI applications for customer services and internal processes. Possibilities include conversational banking and services tailored more closely to individual customers.
UOB will also examine whether Amazon Bedrock, AWS’s managed service for building and scaling generative AI applications, could extend its existing Enterprise GenAI Platform. Potential uses include tools to improve employee productivity and applications deployed across the bank.
The bank will explore AWS learning programmes covering cloud technology, generative AI, analytics, security and compliance. These initiatives would build on UOB’s existing bank-wide AI training programme as part of its workforce transformation efforts.
