UDA Holdings Bhd has made a RM5 million allocation for parks and recreational facilities across Penang, including Laman Tanjong in Tanjung Tokong. The planned public park covers 1.01 hectares and is intended to serve residents and nearby communities.

Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said improving public-space access would help neighbouring communities benefit from new property projects. He also stressed the importance of federal-state cooperation involving implementing agencies such as UDA.

Sim said housing projects could offer opportunities to local entrepreneurs because population growth created demand for services and goods.

UDA chief executive officer Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said the company's contribution to urban development in Penang dated to 1971, with a particular focus on Tanjung Tokong. Its work there has included housing, commercial projects and infrastructure.

The company's Warisan Tanjung development has 3,836 homes on 17.58 hectares. That includes 1,200 replacement homes under a resettlement initiative for Tanjung Tokong's original residents.

Laman Tanjong will adjoin Eight & Eight Condominium. Scheduled to be completed in 2029, the condominium development comprises two towers containing 600 homes.
