TC-HICT passes 8.2 million TEUs as it plans port upgrades
The Haiphong terminal is targeting vessels as large as 200,000 DWT over the long term and plans wider use of digital technology.

Container volumes at Tan Cang – Haiphong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) have exceeded 8.2 million TEUs since its May 2018 opening. Figures presented at its anniversary ceremony on October 16, 2026, also showed approximately 3,550 container ship visits to the Lach Huyen facility in northern Vietnam.
The terminal has maintained annual volumes above one million TEUs across five successive years. At its busiest, handling rates reached 190 containers an hour. Of its 11 weekly shipping services, seven serve the US, while four operate within Asia.
A separate milestone came on October 15, when TC-HICT discharged its one-millionth container for the year from ONE Fantastic. The ship, at 171,899 DWT, is the largest ever received by the terminal.
TC-HICT plans further investment in equipment, technology and infrastructure, targeting the ability to receive ships as large as 200,000 DWT over the longer term. Its plans also cover stronger connections by road, rail, sea and inland waterways, plus closer cooperation with manufacturing centres, logistics providers and industrial parks.
Digital priorities include broader deployment of AI, ePort and optical character recognition. Saigon Newport Corporation also wants TC-HICT to attract more international shipping services and strengthen connections to berths 7 and 8 at Lach Huyen.
