Singapore Exchange (SGX) and two investor organisations launched the Youth Stock Ambassadors Programme on October 5, offering education and market experience to young investors. The launch coincided with SGX introducing smaller board lots for an initial 11 selected stocks.

The programme is a joint initiative with the Securities Association of Singapore and Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS). The organisations said it would complement the lot-size changes by helping younger investors understand the market while reducing the capital needed to buy higher-priced Singapore shares.

Students at tertiary institutions who are interested in investing and capital markets can join the youth-led platform. Selected ambassadors will have opportunities for internships, mentoring and engagement with listed companies, alongside training in capital markets. They will also build skills in research, analysis and content creation.

The two associations will first seek input from the SIAS Youth Chapter to help shape the programme. Securities Association of Singapore members will also work with SIAS on broader outreach to young investors.

Association chairman Wilson He said smaller board lots needed to be accompanied by education, research, mentoring and practical experience. SIAS vice-president Ang Hao Yao said young investors could struggle with the volume of information available and needed a grounding in investment principles.
