Proton Holdings Bhd is broadening its overseas manufacturing business by building selected Geely models at Tanjung Malim in Perak. The Malaysian complex produces vehicles for export under both brands.

Export volumes reached 7,370 units over January–September 2026, against 6,000 across the full 2025 calendar year. Geely models supplied the bulk of that increase.

Deputy chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa said the expanded role would help Proton put its Tanjung Malim investments to greater use, develop manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its international presence.

According to Proton, the programmes will give staff exposure to international manufacturing practices in testing, quality management and traceability. Manufacturing for multiple markets involves meeting different regulatory rules, specifications and quality standards.

That experience could benefit production of Proton vehicles and open up more manufacturing activities to local suppliers. Abdul Rashid said the company remained focused on turning its production capabilities into dependable quality throughout its vehicle range.
