Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reported corporate investment commitments and expansion plans following meetings in Singapore with executives from Mitsubishi Corp., FedEx and Vena Energy. He returned to the Philippines on October 12, 2026, after a working visit lasting five days.

In his statement on returning, Marcos highlighted Mitsubishi’s US$700 million investment in Ayala Corp. The transaction would reportedly lift Mitsubishi’s stake to 15%, from 4.7%.

Marcos said FedEx had shown strong interest in enlarging its Clark Gateway Hub in Pampanga, with opening expected in the final quarter of 2028. He said greater capacity for air cargo and specialised shipments would help small and medium enterprises reach overseas markets.

Vena Energy intends to spend ₱52 billion over the next two years on expanding its Philippine operations, according to Marcos. Its proposed renewable electricity facilities would generate up to 1.29 gigawatts.

The company already operates Philippine facilities totalling 887 megawatts, while projects being built have a capacity of 1.26 gigawatts. Marcos linked the planned investment to government targets for renewables to account for 35% of the country’s electricity supply by 2030 and 50% by 2040.

Marcos also said he visited the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute to learn about Singapore’s research into nuclear power. He has supported adding nuclear energy to the Philippine electricity mix to reduce costs.

That policy push has faced criticism, particularly from environmental advocates, who have raised concerns about safety, the management of radioactive waste and financial risks.
