Malaysia expects 4,053 jobs from RM225.97 billion in data centre projects
Malaysians are expected to fill 89.21 per cent of the 3,523 highly skilled positions linked to 27 approved projects.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said 27 Malaysian data centre projects approved through the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) were expected to generate 4,053 jobs, with estimated investment of RM225.97 billion.
In a written parliamentary reply, Gobind said the employment forecast included 3,523 highly skilled roles. Malaysians were expected to take 89.21 per cent of those positions, spanning networking, cybersecurity, electrical and mechanical engineering, and the operation and maintenance of data centres.
Johor accounts for 16 of the DCTF-approved projects, followed by Selangor with 10 and Negri Sembilan with one. Operations have started at one project; construction is continuing at the other 26.
Gobind said approvals nationwide totalled 84 data centre projects as of July, including the 27 handled by the DCTF.
DCTF approvals carry a local content minimum of 30 per cent to support participation by Malaysian companies. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) checks compliance using implementation reports submitted at six-month intervals.
TalentCorp Malaysia is also developing a Data Centre Facility Management Programme to train Malaysians in operating and maintaining these facilities, Gobind said. He added that government monitoring would continue, focusing on employment quality, local company participation, skills and technology transfer.
