KLCI rises in early trade despite broader market losses
Banking heavyweights advanced, while declining stocks outnumbered gainers 193 to 137 across Bursa Malaysia.

Malaysia’s benchmark FBM KLCI reached 1,627.85 at 9.10am on October 14, 2026, up 4.50 points, or 0.27 per cent, against the previous close of 1,623.35. The index began trading at 1,623.94, an opening gain of 0.59 points.
The wider market did not match the benchmark’s advance: 193 stocks fell and 137 rose. Another 291 were unchanged, with 2,234 untraded and 21 suspended. Trading volume amounted to 239.44 million units, valued at RM140.08 million.
Banking shares contributed to the gains. CIMB climbed seven sen to RM7.57, Public Bank increased three sen to RM4.73 and Maybank advanced two sen to RM9.98. IHH Healthcare rose five sen to RM8.03, but Tenaga Nasional dropped two sen to RM13.02. ACE market newcomer Ecosys gained 46 sen to 73 sen.
Apex Securities Bhd said the previous session’s weak market breadth, alongside another KLCI advance, indicated that the recovery was largely confined to selected larger companies. The brokerage said continuing foreign selling and weaker regional technology markets could constrain further gains. It expected the benchmark to trade within a range, with domestic policy support countering global macroeconomic uncertainty.
Sector indices were mixed. Financial Services added 75.64 points to 18,841.81, while Energy lost 10.14 points to 824.92. The FBM ACE Index also retreated, falling 45.96 points to 5,439.39.
