Indonesia’s sukuk attract global interest, central bank governor says
Destry Damayanti said Indonesia’s cumulative Green Sukuk issuance had reached US$7.7 billion overseas and Rp108.9 trillion domestically.

Bank Indonesia Governor Destry Damayanti said international investors were showing greater interest in sukuk amid uncertainty in global financial markets, creating scope for Indonesia to expand its Islamic finance offerings. She made the remarks at the opening of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2026 in Jakarta on 14 October 2026.
Destry attributed that interest partly to the assets or projects underpinning sukuk. She said this backing made Islamic financial products relatively stable and gave them characteristics distinct from conventional instruments. The shift in investor preferences offered opportunities in both Indonesia’s domestic market and overseas, she said.
The government regularly issues global sukuk to broaden its access to international markets, according to Destry. Indonesia began issuing Green Sukuk in 2018, with cumulative issuance reaching US$7.7 billion in global markets and Rp108.9 trillion in the domestic market, she said.
Destry said demand extended beyond Muslim countries to the United States and Europe, where investors viewed the products as sustainable. She called on relevant ministries and agencies to work together on a more varied range of Islamic financial products to respond to strong demand.
