Indonesia’s benchmark IHSG share index dropped 69.39 points, or 1.31%, to 5,209.5 at 09:35 WIB on 21 October 2026, with energy stocks leading sector declines, according to Refinitiv data cited by CNBC Indonesia.

Trading volume reached 90.27 million lots, while turnover totalled Rp5,237.63 billion. Energy shares lost 3.1% and basic materials fell 1.8%. Stocks weighing on the benchmark included BYAN, MORA, DCII, MDKA and VKTR.

Bank Indonesia’s interest-rate announcement was a key focus for investors. In a CNBC Indonesia Research poll covering 13 institutions, 10 expected a 25 bps increase to 6.00%, while three forecast no change at 5.75%.

A rate increase would follow three consecutive months of unchanged rates, after cumulative increases of 100 bps in May-June 2026. The decision was due with the rupiah having again crossed Rp18,000 per US dollar.

CNBC Indonesia also reported continuing concern over a possible MSCI reclassification of Indonesia from Emerging Market to Standalone Market, which it identified as the main trigger for heavy selling the previous week. Investors were awaiting share purchases by Danantara and monitoring responses to MSCI’s announcement from the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the government and Danantara.
