Indonesia's finance ministry rules out stake in stock exchange
The ministry backs capital-market reforms led by OJK and the Indonesia Stock Exchange but says it will remain a policymaker, not an owner or operator.

Indonesia's Ministry of Finance will not take a shareholding in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) as part of its demutualisation, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said on 3 November 2026. He said the government's role would remain that of a policymaker rather than an exchange owner or operator.
Speaking during questions at the Financial System Stability Committee's third-quarter 2026 press conference in Jakarta, Suahasil distinguished the ministry's policy responsibilities from BEI's exchange operations and commercial activities.
The decision not to become a shareholder does not alter the ministry's support for capital-market reforms being pursued by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and BEI, he said. The ministry will monitor implementation and coordinate efforts to meet the targets set out in the reform action plan.
Demutualisation is part of that reform agenda. It aims to move the exchange away from ownership by its members towards a company with a more open ownership structure.
