Indonesia recorded Rp299.49 trillion in digital physical gold trades during January–August 2026, up 641.1% from Rp40.41 trillion a year earlier, according to the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti). Trading volume increased 382.6% to 115.86 tonnes, compared with 24 tonnes in the corresponding period of 2025.

Bappebti head Tirta Karma Senjaya said the expansion needed to be accompanied by better public understanding of trading rules, procedures and risks. The agency and the Indonesian Digital Gold Traders Association (PPEDI) held a seminar on 17 October 2026 during the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia at ICE BSD City in Tangerang regency, Banten.

Tirta said digital technology had made gold ownership more accessible and affordable, but that industry growth also required stronger governance, secure technology infrastructure, regulation and enforcement. He said licensed businesses operating under Bappebti’s supervision supported the market, with physical gold backing digital holdings at a 1:1 ratio.

Bappebti official Ima Siti Fatimah said anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing programmes were mandatory. Futures exchanges, digital physical gold traders, storage operators and depositories must also obtain ISO 27001 certification for information security management. The requirements additionally cover ISO 27017 for cloud security and ISO 27018 for privacy protection in cloud environments.

PPEDI chairman Anang Samsudin said digitally recorded transactions remained backed by physical gold held by a third party or custodian. Regular checks and supervision were needed to ensure customers’ holdings matched the gold in storage, he said.
