Indonesian envoy urges PT PAL to pursue Middle East defence contracts
The ambassador to the UAE cited the shipbuilder’s naval work and stronger bilateral economic ties as grounds for seeking more regional business.

Indonesia’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Judha Nugraha, has urged state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia to seek more defence business across the Middle East, pointing to its work for the UAE Navy.
Nugraha cited the company’s construction of the Al-Maryah Landing Platform Dock naval vessel as evidence of engineering expertise that could help it win further regional contracts. He said closer economic ties offered an opportunity to extend cooperation into maritime and defence industries.
Officials said bilateral trade rose 26 per cent and UAE investment in Indonesia increased nearly 641 per cent after the Indonesia–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement took effect.
PT PAL executives said diplomatic backing was important for building overseas partnerships and reaching foreign buyers. Marketing Director Wiyono Komodjojo said international partnerships were intended to widen market access while improving domestic industrial capabilities. Company leaders also said overseas ventures supported knowledge transfer, skills development and technology integration in ship design, production and long-term maintenance.
