Indonesia stock trading halted as IHSG opens 8.01 per cent lower
MSCI has opened a consultation on moving Indonesia from Emerging Market to Standalone Market status, with a final decision targeted by 30 June 2027.

Trading in Indonesian shares was temporarily suspended on 16 October 2026 after the benchmark IHSG dropped 8.01 per cent at the opening. The index fell 469.86 points to 5,393.92, against the previous session’s close of 5,863.78.
Recorded turnover reached Rp922.33 billion, with 53.6 million lots traded.
Separately, MSCI is consulting investors on whether Indonesia should move from its Emerging Market classification to Standalone Market status. It cited concerns about shareholding transparency, suspected coordinated trading and the effectiveness of rule enforcement. MSCI said reforms announced by regulators had not yet delivered sufficient, consistent progress.
MSCI has also kept restrictions on changes involving Indonesian shares in its indices. These include a freeze on increases to the Foreign Inclusion Factor and Number of Shares, additions to the MSCI Indonesia Investable Market Index, and moves into larger market-capitalisation segments.
Responses to the consultation can be submitted until 30 April 2027. MSCI aims to announce its final decision by 30 June 2027 and said it could reconsider the proposed reclassification if consultation responses demonstrate material improvements in market governance and functioning.
