Durian agreements with China worth US$50 million were among three major memorandums of understanding secured in 2026, according to Indonesia's trade attaché in Beijing, Junita Syartika. She disclosed the figures during Trade Expo Indonesia 2026 at ICE BSD City in South Tangerang.

Trade in frozen durian between Indonesia and China had reached Rp1 trillion by July, Syartika said. The Ministry of Trade reported that Chinese demand was growing for processed durian products and cardamom seeds, offering Indonesian producers more export opportunities.

Syartika linked demand for cardamom to its widespread use in traditional Chinese medicine. She also cited US$11 billion in exports for fruits and seeds, describing them as important contributors to ASEAN shipments to China.

For producers pursuing overseas buyers, Syartika stressed the need for current information on regulations, tariffs, trade agreements and government support. She encouraged businesses to draw on market information and existing trade agreements when developing products, alongside attention to packaging and promotion.
