The Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) has urged investors to assess company fundamentals following MSCI’s announcement of a possible downgrade of Indonesia from Emerging Market to Standalone Market status. The exchange stressed that the classification change remained a proposal.

Speaking in Jakarta on 16 October 2026, BEI listing director Saidu Solihin said the exchange understood investors’ concerns. He said it was keeping market mechanisms operating and would communicate technical clarification from MSCI as soon as possible.

BEI cited aggregate figures through June 2026 showing that listed companies’ revenue grew by about 13 per cent and profit increased by about 9 per cent. Total assets rose by almost 3 per cent, while equity also increased. The exchange said those figures indicated that corporate fundamentals remained relatively strong.

Saidu said consultation on the proposed reclassification would remain open until April 2027, leaving Indonesian capital-market authorities time to address MSCI’s concerns. BEI urged investors to weigh financial performance, business prospects and the authorities’ follow-up alongside short-term market sentiment.
