Ho Chi Minh City has outlined opportunities for German investment in technology, infrastructure and green industries at the German Business and Investment Forum Vietnam 2026. Nguyen Loc Ha, standing vice-chairman of the city's People's Committee, said it wanted deeper business cooperation and hoped Hamburg would become its fourth German locality with formal cooperation ties.

The city's trade with Germany amounted to nearly US$2 billion over January-September 2026. German investors have 316 projects registered in Ho Chi Minh City, representing capital of more than US$742 million, as well as 27 representative offices. Ha said the city also sought German expertise to help local companies produce goods meeting EU and German standards.

Vietnam is moving towards attracting higher-quality foreign investment with advanced technology and closer connections to domestic companies, said Dao Thanh Huong, deputy director general of the Ministry of Finance's Foreign Investment Agency. She listed high-tech manufacturing, logistics and infrastructure, green transition and technology, and workforce development for industrial transformation as priorities. Huong said the ministry would help connect businesses and promote investment projects with the German Business Association in Vietnam, German Industry and Commerce Vietnam and other relevant agencies.

German Ambassador to Vietnam Helga Barth pointed to cooperation opportunities in green technology and the energy transition, saying Vietnam's electricity demand was projected to double by 2030. Hamburg First Mayor Peter Tschentscher said companies from his city were willing to share knowledge on renewable energy, port development and inland transport connections with Vietnamese partners.
