German investment in Vietnam amounts to an estimated US$3.7 billion across 620 projects, supporting at least 55,000 direct jobs, according to the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam). Its 2026/27 assessment covers investments routed through third-country subsidiaries and other international corporate structures whose ultimate owners are German.

Sales and services represent the biggest category of German business activity identified, involving over 250 companies. German firms also have software, automation, engineering and digital services teams working in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Danang.

Manufacturing remains the segment with the highest capital intensity, with roughly 120 German producers operating in industries ranging from apparel and chemicals to electronics and medical technology. Of the manufacturers reviewed, about 71 per cent have their own facilities within industrial parks, while around 27 per cent occupy ready-built factories. AHK linked the latter option to quicker entry into the market and smaller upfront capital needs.

The Greater Ho Chi Minh City region accounts for about 70 per cent of the German business presence nationwide. German companies are concentrated within roughly 40 km of the city centre, with supplier networks, logistics, industrial parks and customer access helping attract them, the report said.

The Hanoi-Hai Phong corridor ranks as the next major investment destination, supported by proximity to China, Hai Phong's deep-sea port and expanding industrial infrastructure. Danang is also drawing interest from companies seeking cheaper locations and opportunities for growth, according to AHK.
