Vietnam’s energy projects, railway plans and technology ambitions offer opportunities for French businesses, French Ambassador Le Bret said at France-Vietnam Forward 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City. He said Vietnamese priorities matched French capabilities as science and technology gain importance in bilateral ties.

Le Bret identified energy as a pressing need, citing installed power capacity of about 90 GW and plans for a 10 per cent expansion, adding roughly 9 GW. Meeting economic growth demands requires a mix of wind, solar, hydropower and nuclear energy, he said. France hopes to participate, drawing on its hydropower and nuclear expertise.

Transport is another area for cooperation as Vietnam plans high-speed rail and metro expansion in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. France has contributed to Hanoi’s metro line No. 3 between Nhon and Hanoi Station. French companies are expected to take on more consulting, design and technology-transfer work to support Vietnam’s railway operation and maintenance capabilities.

Digital links also run in both directions: Vietnamese technology businesses are investing in France, while French companies use software developed in Vietnam. The ambassador pointed to potential cooperation combining French quantum technology expertise with Vietnam’s expanding digital sector.

Le Bret also recalled an agreement during President Emmanuel Macron’s 2025 Vietnam visit to promote a year of science and technology cooperation. He said high-level visits opened the way for joint projects connecting research with industrial and economic needs.
