Ever Wonder Adventure, a website promoting environmental guardianship, released a new report on sea turtles and why they need to be protected from plastic pollution.

In its new report, Ever Wonder Adventure calls for a significant reduction in marine plastic pollution in order to preserve the existence of sea turtles. Recent estimates show that there are only about 6.5 million sea turtles left in the wild. While there are many reasons for their declining population, one of the leading causes is plastic pollution, which kills over a million marine animals each year. Considering there is anywhere from 75 to 200 million tons of plastic currently in the oceans, and a further 33 billion pounds being added every year, Ever Wonder Adventure decided that something had to be done.
“Sea turtles are under severe threat due to the alarming levels of plastic waste we are dumping into our oceans,” explained a spokesperson for Ever Wonder Adventure. “With our new report, we’re hoping to shed some light on this dire situation and encourage people around the world to adopt sustainable practices and take part in conservation efforts.”
Ever Wonder Adventure refers to sea turtles as “keystone species,” because of the role they play in maintaining the overall health and stability of both marine and terrestrial environments. They help keep seagrass and jellyfish levels regulated, they redistribute sand through their egg-laying process, and they transport vital nutrients across vast distances when they migrate.
Unfortunately - in addition to plastic pollution - sea turtles are also under constant threat from predators and poachers. However, if left unharmed, they can live anywhere from 50 to 100 years, and therefore, Ever Wonder Adventure believes they must be protected and allowed to propagate.
