A new Sauna Fix guide explains how brief pre-workout heat can complement an active warm-up, and why longer preheating can raise thermal strain and perceived effort before training begins.

Kennewick, United States, September 18, 2026 /PressCable/ -- Creatrix Solutions has published an educational guide to using a sauna before a workout. The guide centers on brief heat exposure, light mobility, hydration and the case against heavy preheating before demanding exercise, and it separates what passive-heating research shows from what applies to a sauna session.
More details can be found at https://creatrixsolutions.com/products/sauna-before-workout
The guide treats pre-workout sauna use differently from a standalone session. The goal is to begin exercise warm rather than depleted, which for most people means roughly 5 to 15 gentle minutes paired with light mobility or stretching, rather than staying in the heat until fatigue or fluid loss sets in.
Research on passive heating explains why the amount of heat matters. In a study comparing an active warm-up, passive heating and no warm-up, passive heating raised muscle temperature from approximately 33.6 to 36.8 degrees Celsius, yet the researchers found no significant improvement in time-to-exhaustion performance from passive heating alone. A separate systematic review and meta-analysis examined passive heating used after an active warm-up, during the wait before competition, and reported that it preserved muscle temperature and produced a significant improvement in peak power. Together the findings point to a narrower role for passive heat: it can raise or preserve temperature, but it does not replace movement-specific preparation.
"Pre-workout heat should leave someone ready to train, not already tired from the heat," said Eileen Durfee, inventor of the Sauna Fix® near infrared sauna. "A short session with easy mobility makes more sense than treating the sauna itself as the workout."
Evidence on excessive preheating points the other way. In one sauna study, participants began exercise with a core temperature near 38.95 degrees Celsius, and their perceived exertion during the exercise that followed was significantly higher than without the same preheating. Other experiments used heating methods other than saunas and are reported as such: forty minutes of lower-body heating before high-intensity exercise reduced exercise tolerance by about 36 percent in one, and prolonged passive preheating has similarly been linked to less total work and higher perceived exertion.
The guide therefore recommends a conservative sequence: begin hydrated, use roughly 5 to 15 minutes of heat with light mobility, then spend a few minutes at room temperature with water before harder exercise. That transition lets heart rate begin to settle while the body stays warm. Hydration is part of the calculation because sweat removes both water and electrolytes, so heavy sweating before a workout creates a replacement need before training has even begun.
The guide also identifies situations where pre-workout sauna use is a poor fit, including maximal-strength days, competition, long endurance sessions, already-hot training conditions, dehydration, illness and inadequate sleep, and it advises stopping at dizziness, nausea, headache or unusual fatigue. Heat acclimation is addressed separately: preparing for competition or training in hot weather involves structured, repeated exposures and should not be confused with a casual pre-lift sauna routine.
For movement-based warm-ups, the Sauna Fix® Exercise Sauna uses a long radiant tent with enough room for stretching and mobility work inside the heated enclosure. The guide is educational and is not medical advice; anyone whose health, medication or pregnancy could affect their response to heat or exercise is advised to consult a healthcare professional first.

In 2007, I wrote an article entitled “BP 22 Defanged,” where I observed that Batas Pambansa Blg. 22, the Bouncing Checks Law (BP 22), had been weakened by two developments: the Supreme Court’s policy preference for a fine rather than imprisonment (SC Administrative Circular Nos. 12-2000 and 13-01) and decisions requiring the prosecution to prove
