Growing up in Broken Arrow, Ashton graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 2009. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2013, after which she worked as a nurse in the Trauma ICU at Saint Francis Hospital for 6 years.

An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a nurse who has obtained at least a master's degree in nursing. APRNs may work across various healthcare settings, including hospitals, ambulatory clinics, or long-term care facilities. They provide medical support and preventative care to patients, along with additional responsibilities of coordinating patient care and using specialized knowledge to manage complex patient conditions. APRNs can diagnose and treat as well as order and interpret tests and prescribe medications.

A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds certification and works autonomously or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, to deliver family-focused care. Given the rather broad nature of the "family" patient population focus, FNPs offer a wide range of healthcare services that revolve around the family unit; from health promotion and disease prevention to direct care and counseling across the lifespan.
